Madrona Bark for Dying Fabrc

Madrone bark for fabric dyeing

Madrona trees (also called Madrone trees) can be used to dye fabric and paper. Arbutus menziesii trees grow along the Pacific Coast from British Columbia to California. The bark peels off the tree and produces a rich red brown dye.

No mordant is needed because Madrona bark is naturally high in tannins. A long, slow simmer is all you need to do. Take your time to get the best results.
